BSIA Celebrate Four Decades Of Best Practice

This year, SDC and REMAS join the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) in their celebrations to mark 40 years of service to the private sector industry.

Formed in 1967 by just eight founder members, the BSIA has been instrumental in introducing the regulation of the private security industry and has contributed to hundreds of British and European Standards, many of which are based upon BSIA codes of practice.

Today the Association has some 600 members and its influence continues to bring significant benefits to both the industry and its customers. The Association’s timely announcements have helped its members to prepare in advance for a number of key standards and legislative changes, an advantage that serves to increase end user benefits. And in putting security on the corporate agenda, BSIA and its member companies continue to encourage customers to view security as an investment that can show real returns.

The strength of the BSIA lies in the quality and diversity of its membership, which has evolved over the past 40 years into a singular determination to promote, develop and implement best practice. With the support of forward-thinking member companies like SDC and REMAS, we wish the Association continued success for many years to come.

Earlier this year SDC was proud to be awarded the contract to install a CCTV system at the new BSIA Headquarters in Worcester.

As you would expect the design, installation and monitoring requirements were the very highest, being to the new BS8418 standard.

The remote CCTV system was a combined project with REMGUARD, the UK’s leading remote CCTV monitoring provider. The BS8418 installation and monitoring standard provides the BSIA site with a police URN (unique reference number) that provides a privileged priority response – Richard Bissett, SDC’s Technical Director predicts the CCTV market will graduate toward the ‘URN’ concept, but to achieve this installation companies must achieve the BS8418 accreditation.

SDC is one of only a few UK companies to have already been accredited, a notable achievement to celebrate.
